Shorshe Sheem is a simple, yet delicious, Bengali vegetarian recipe which celebrates the humble flavours of broad beans cooked in a spicy mustard sauce.
 
Ingredients:
15-20 broad beans/sheem
2 tbsp mustard oil 
1/4 tsp kalonji/black nigella seeds
1-2 green chillies
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
a pinch of sugar (about 1/6 tsp)
Mustard Paste: 
1 cup yellow mustard 
1 tbsp black mustard seeds
2 tsp white poppy seeds 
3 green chillies
a splash of water, just enough to make a paste
 
Method:
Place all the ingredients of the mustard paste in a mixie jar and grind them to a fine paste. You can add some water if required. 
Heat mustard oil in a wok, then add nigella seeds, green chilli and stir fry.
Now add turmeric powder, and saute. Once it acquires a dark colour add the cleaned broad beans. 
Mix well and add salt, and cover to cook the broad beans.
Add mustard paste and mix quickly. Fry the mustard paste well and add salt if needed.
Add sugar, mix and add water. Combine well and cook for a few minutes.
